100 Days

Story

An ongoing project based on the Instagram trend of the same name, I set out to do 100 portraits in 100 days.

I was curious to find out how my perception of faces would change over the duration of the project. The most surprising outcome was how quickly the habit went from being a chore to something I looked forward to at the end of the day.

I was careful to avoid drawing people I knew—there’s a lot less pressure to accurately capture the likeness and personality of a stranger—and instead scoured the internet, magazines, and books for reference photos of people with interesting faces that have stories to tell. In some instances, I know what those stories are, though in most I’m left to imagine what they might be.
